Extreme weather blocks vessel traffic around South Africa
Severe storm conditions off the coast of South Africa have temporarily halted vessel movements. The rough seas are exacerbating supply chain delays caused by diversions around the Red Sea to avoid Houthi rebel attacks on commercial shipping, according to logistics companies and commodity analysts.
Possible strike at British Columbia ports halted by Canada Labor Board
A potential strike at ports in British Columbia has been halted, after Canada’s Industrial Relations Board (CIRB) ruled that a strike notice from the union representing the region’s ship and dock foremen was illegal.
Ship and dock foremen with the International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU) Local 514 in British Columbia had issued a 72-hour strike notice against terminal operator DP World Canada on July 5.

FMC halts Maersk, Hapag-Lloyd agreement
Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd’s proposed operational alliance will no longer become effective July 15, as the Federal Maritime Commission is seeking additional information from the two ocean carriers.
“The Commission has determined that the Gemini Cooperation Agreement as submitted lacks sufficient detail to allow for a complete analysis of its potential competitive impacts,” according to a July 12 press release.
