Freightgate, a global provider of Best in Class Logistics Cloud Solutions, and Alliance International, one of North America’s largest independently owned providers of global logistics and customs clearance services, have announced today a new Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) Compliance Module designed to enhance the collaboration between importers of record and their custom brokers.
The HTS Compliance Module has been integrated into the Freightgate Universe. Freightgate’s Logistics Cloud Platform, known as the Freightgate Universe, enables solutions empowering professionals on all levels to collaborate with all stakeholders seamlessly on a single common transportation sourcing platform for pro-active decision-making across the entire supply-chain.
The HTS Compliance Module provides an easy way from importers to store, track and share their product classification information. The importer maintains their master product information in a cloud repository enabling global collaboration with custom brokers. The Module substantially streamlines importer-broker collaboration. The customs broker utilizes the importer’s current HTS information to accurately clear shipments. Importer and Brokers can attach important documents to product classifications to keep histories in one central knowledge-base.
Ensuring everyone work with consistent HTS classifications minimizes clearance delays, import penalties, and improved duty assessment avoiding classification errors, overpayment of customs duties, and drawbacks. U.S. Customs routinely revokes or modifies tariff classification rulings. The module incorporates direct access to U.S. Customs HTS classifications.
“It has been refreshing to work with the experts at Alliance Customs Clearance, tapping their vast knowledge and hands-on insight of what the market needs to improve these important processes,” says Martin Hubert, President and CEO of Freightgate, Inc.
Frank de la Torre, Executive Vice President of Alliance International, confirms, “The Freightgate team has yet again exceeded our expectations with insightful questions and ideas that took a basic concept way beyond our original imagination. The Freightgate team’s understanding of our business and goals minimizing lengthy meetings to short, constructive discussions and innovative results. Alliance introduces the objective, the Freightgate team offered solutions and alternatives, and completed the project in record time.”
The Harmonized Tariff Schedule is a global classification system used by more than 150 countries to describe imported goods. U.S. Customs holds importers of record responsible for classifying imported merchandise properly, as well as demonstrating reasonable care in the overall classification process. Increasing HTS classification efficiency, accuracy, and auditability with broker collaboration can have a tremendous impact upon a company’s profits.
